Note: Bamboo is a fast-growing woody plant in the grass family which is distinguished by it hollow woody stems with a nodular structure. It is by far the largest member of the grass family, with some species reaching close to a hundred feet in height. There are hundreds of species, which are native to the warmer parts of Asia, Africa or the Americas. Bamboo has an extremely wide range of uses, including fishing poles, building material, furniture, railway crossing gates, paper making and kitchen utensils. Moreover, the shoots are edible and are commonly consumed in East Asia.
