________
Note: Ammonia is a colorless gaseous alkaline compound of nitrogen and hydrogen that is formed by the decomposition of nitrogenous organic material. Ammonia has a characteristic pungent odor and is irritating to the lungs, skin and eyes. The main uses are for making fertilizers and in industrial processes. Ammonia for household use, sometimes referred to as household ammonia, is sold as a five to ten percent solution in water.

Caution: Although ammonia is a naturally occurring substance, it can be dangerous. It is an irritant to the skin, eyes and lungs, and it should be used only with proper ventilation. Moreover, it should never be used together with bleach or other products containing chlorine because a deadly gas can form.

It is also wise to not use ammonia and bleach in the same house or apartment on the same day. The reason is that there is anecdotal evidence that even very small amounts of the lingering vapors from one of them is sufficient to create small amounts of toxic gas when the other is used, and even such small amounts can be sufficient to cause pneumonia or other lung damage.
